Dental Devotions: Do You Have A Guarantee?

In today’s world, people want a guarantee or warranty on just about everything that they get. In my office, I try to guarantee any work that I provide for my patients. My crowns, fillings, and dentures all have a reasonable lifespan. If for some reason, the material or workmanship fails, I will replace or fix the work at no charge provided that the failure occurs under normal and routine use. If someone drops their denture in a sink and it breaks, then that breakage is not covered under the guarantee. The guarantees in my office all have a limited lifespan based on the procedure and materials used in the procedure. For example, some of my dentures have a 6-month guarantee, some 2 years, and others, 3 years.

However, God in His Word, does offer us many guarantees that have no expiration date. Most of His guarantees are just awesome; but, some are downright scary if your choices are not in line with His Word. One of the guarantees is eternal life provided through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.

I John 2:25 NASB – John says, 25 This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.

And in John 10:28 NASB – Jesus says, 28 “and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”

Another guarantee that we have is His grace.

In Ephesians 2:8 NASB – Paul says, 8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;”

In Romans 10: 9-10, Paul summarizes salvation and how it is guaranteed to us: 9 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” So through salvation, we are guaranteed eternal life with the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. In Isaiah 41:10 the Lord says, 10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ In Deuteronomy 31:8 NASB, Moses tells us that “8 The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” These guarantees should fill every believer with overflowing joy and safety.

But, if you reject the Lord, there is another guarantee. The best description to me is found in Revelation 20: 11-15 NASB. John says, “11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

This passage speaks about spending eternity in Hell, totally separated from God because you rejected Him. I believe this guarantee, just as I believe the others. Which guarantee are you getting from the Lord?
